Info

When your club is affiliated it then becomes insured under the terms of the BPKA insurance. This means that you are able to run events whether they are kiting related or social events and also have cover under the same terms as the BPKA itself.

If you create a club and do not affiliate then it means that the insurers would not recognize your club name and should any incident occur every member of the organisation becomes liable!

As the BPKA is a national organisation it is sometimes preferred by local councils or other organisations to deal with a smaller club who are local to the area and more readily accessible. It also allows each individual club to be able to negotiate directly with the councils etc and work together to create a mutually acceptable set of conditions for use of any areas made available.

In keeping with the BPKA's philosophy it is expected that no charges be made for membership to any affiliated club unless there is an arrangement such that a fee is paid by the club for use of the land on a license/lease or other agreeable basis (please see affiliation guidelines).

Affiliation to the BPKA brings with it many benefits and whilst many clubs charge a fee to the smaller affiliated clubs the BPKA do not!

It is important that before forming a club that all of the requirements for affiliation are met. This includes creating a number of documents and also adhering to the affiliation guidelines as set out by the BPKA.

Every member of the affiliated club must be insured through the BPKA

Documentation

There is quite a large amount of documentation required to be completed prior to affiliation. Whilst this may seem a little 'over the top' it is necessary so that the insurers are happy that all activities are under control and are managed correctly.

The list of documents required are indicated below. As some of the documentation is common throughout the organisation it is recommended that where possible these are used rather than creating your own .

  • Association’s constitution

  • Names of committee members

  • Code of conduct

  • Risk assessment

  • Association/club rules

  • Safety guidelines

  • Emergency action plan

  • Child protection policy

  • First aid policy

PDF versions of these documents can be obtained here.
